MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Team 4 in school's history is currently in the number 1 spot, James Clemens softball atop the rankings in 7A.
"This year we went from being number 4 to number 3 to number 1, so it just shows how much work we're putting in, just climbing up that ladder, and now we're at the top," senior Aubrion James said Wednesday at practice.
The team motto is"We over me." And that's exactly what 4 seniors on the roster are using this season.
"Putting the team over yourself, not really worrying about how well or bad you're doing. Just knowing you have that many people to pick you up," said senior Katie McCarley.
The Jets won the area earlier this week and will host the area tournament. Still players are taking it game by game.
"I don't want people to think that we don't work hard even though we're on top now, that doesn't mean we will at the end," senior pitcher Emily Jacklin acknowledged.
"Our goal is to survive and advance. We're not looking toward Montgomery," Carolina Payne who plays shortstop for the team added. "We're
looking at every step to get there. We're just trying to do the best we can."
Head Coach A.J. Daughtery started the program 3 1/2 year ago.
His first team started 0-9 and finished 17-27-1.
Fast forward, and the Jets are 30-5.
Daughtery believes the best is yet to come.
"It's like we planted a tree 3 1/2 years ago, and you're starting to see some beautiful fruit on the tree. Team 4 is getting to reap the fruit on that tree."
