FIRST ALERT WEATHER: Heavier showers and a few thunderstorms expected Wednesday

After several dry days, showers and storms arrive today. The first half of the day remains dry with only slight rain chances late morning. You will notice gusty southerly winds today.

A wind advisory in effect today from noon to 8 pm. The heavier showers and a few thunderstorms this afternoon through the evening hours. The showers and storms will develop along a cold front from west to east.

Expect rain in the northwest Alabama around 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. as it works east across the metro impacting the evening commute. Expect conditions to improve by 11pm as the system exits the area with clearing overnight into Thursday. 

Temperatures will rebound to near 66 for Thursday, but another late week cold front will drive temperatures down over the weekend. Lows over the weekend will come with frost and freeze potential. Look for more rain by the start of next week.
