Kitchen Cops; Ten Low Performers

The Morgan County Health Department handed Sharx Fish & Chicken in Decatur an 81. The inspector reports gyro meat was at room temperature, which allows bacteria to grow. There also was evidence of smoking in the building, with tobacco products and an ashtray reportedly found in the storage room.

City Hardware in Florence has been a Kitchen Cops High Performer. Not this time, as they scored an 81. The Lauderdale County Health Department reports several food items were above the maximum temperature allowed for cold-holding food, and that some dirty dishes were stored with clean ones.

The health department reported that same violation happened at Rosie's Mexican Cantina in Florence. They scored an 82. The inspector also reports the expiration dates for some food should have been for a shorter time period.

Dixie's Cafe in Hartselle scored an 81. The inspector reports they were using broken containers, which can cause cross contamination. They also lost points because their food manager safety certification is expired.

Little Caesar's in Athens scored an 82. Three racks of pre-made pizza were reportedly 15 to 20 degrees over the required cold-holding temperature.

Sweet Basil Cafe Too in Florence scored an 82. The inspector reports the dish machines wasn't sanitizing. The staff fixed that problem on the spot by replacing a hose.

Just one critical violation was reported at New China Restaurant in Guntersville. They scored an 83. The inspector reports personal drinks were sitting next to napkins and customer drink products.

An 84 for Frizzle's in Huntsville. The health department reports the walk-in cooler condenser was leaking on food, and that several food items were over the required cold-holding temperature.

Store N Deli in Florence is this week's lowest scoring low performer with a 65. The inspector reports workers weren't washing their hands before handling food, and that raw chicken was sitting in a sink at 26 degrees above the required temperature.

The Paradise Food Mart Chisholm Road in Florence scored a 72. The health department reports they found rodent dropping throughout cabinets in the self-serve area. Hot food was also reportedly held below the required temperature.

Legghorn's in Guntersville nearly went from back-to-back low performer to high performer by scoring a 95, a 16 point improvement from their previous inspection.

Sam's Sports Grill in Decatur made an even bigger comeback. Just like Legghorn's, Sam's scored a 79 last time. This time, they kept it clean, putting up a 96.

India Garden in Madison did just enough to get off of the low performers list with an 85, three points better than last time.

There are 11 Kitchen Cops High Performers this week. PaPou's in Huntsville, the Pig Time BBQ food truck in Huntsville, and Smokin in the Shoals each scored a 99.

The following eight high performers scored a 98: Grille 29 in Huntsville, Sam's Club Cafe on National Boulevard in Huntsville, the Subway in Owens Cross Roads, The Stem and Stein in Madison, Hot Dogin in Madison, the I Love Bacon Food Truck in Huntsville, The Dish in Huntsville. and the Our Little Kitchen mobile food unit in Athens
