The woman at the center of accusations of improper behavior with Alabama Governor Robert Bentley has resigned.

In a statement released Wednesday afternoon, Rebekah Mason added she "will no longer be paid from his campaign fund. I have also ended my work with the Alabama Council For Excellent Government. My only plans are to focus my full attention on my precious children and my husband who I love dearly.  They are the most important people in my life. Thank you for your prayers for our family.”

Her resignation comes nearly one week after accusations of an improper relationship between Mason and Bentley was made public by removed ALEA Secretary Spencer Collier.

In the days following the accusations and the pair's denial of improper actions, a series of recordings were released by Yellowhammer News in which a voice believed to be that of Bentley says the name "Rebekah" and talks about physical contact.

Bentley responded with a brief statement: "I appreciate Rebekah Mason's service to my administration and the people of this state. I wish the best for her and her family."
