HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Twelve-year-old Aaliyah's love for dancing was born when she joined her cousin's dance team when she was in the second grade.
That love of movement has only grown as she has grown older. She has danced with several groups and even competed.
Aaliyah says when she dances she is literally transported to another time and space.
"It makes me very happy. When I dance it's like a weight is lifted off of my shoulders," says Aaliyah. "I don't have to worry about anything or anyone looking down on me. I am in my own world."
And no surprise she hopes to one day make dancing her career and share her love and knowledge for dance with other young students.
"When I grow up I would like to become a professional dancer and get my degree in dance and open up my own dance studio and continue my career as a dancer," says Aaliyah.
Aaliyah, who is the second oldest child in her family, says she wants a Big Sister so she can have someone who will help her with her homework and her attitude and behavior.
"When someone says something to me that I don't like I lose it, so you want someone to help you, like keep it down," says Aaliyah.
