HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Mae Jemison High School has its first head football coach in school history.

His name is Kelvis White and the Courtland native is happy to be back home in North Alabama.

"Dothan is a great place, a great situation," said Kelvis White, who visited his new school Wednesday morning. "One thing is, I'm from North Alabama. I'm from Courtland, small town Courtland High School. It was an opportunity to come back home."

White played at Alabama and coached at Dothan High School for the last eight seasons. Kelvis' brother, LaRon, is the head coach at Tanner. Both brothers will meet up on the grid iron August 26th when Mae Jemison takes on Tanner to open the season.

"I asked my mom, 'What side are you going to sit on? Tanner or Jemison?' It's gonna be exciting. It's gonna be a little different coaching against him."

Kelvis and LaRon's father, Hall of Famer Louis White, will also be able to see more home games with both sons in town.

"We watched him, and of course we played for him, and we understand what it takes. Me and my brother have been lining fields and toting coolers. And he lets us kind of do it our own way."
