(WAFF) - The Alabama State Board of Education has named a proxy to fill the seat of its outgoing superintendent while a search continues for a full-time replacement.
Legal Counsel Juliana Dean will act as proxy until an interim can be named at a later date.
Dr. Tommy Bice announced plans to retire from his post as Alabama's educational leader at the end of March.
"I retire knowing that public education in our state is moving forward at an accelerated pace due to the dedicated teachers and leaders who have embraced the policy environment created by our State Board of Education," Dr. Bice said.
