The heat and the dough are rising - and so is the pizza business in Alabama.

According to Thrillist, the fastest growing fast food chain in the state is create-your-own, bake-your-own pizza business Papa Murphy's.

The result is based upon factors including increased percentage of locations between the third quarter of 2014 to the most recent data available, generally January 2016.

They only focused on chains with at least 40 locations nationwide and at least 10 locations statewide, and an increase of at least five stores in the time frame specified.

For those who haven't experienced Papa Murphy's, a customer picks from a list of crust types and recipes, or can create their own pizza from an array of toppings. Staff members stretch out the dough, lay out the sauce and spread on the toppings before your eyes, then wrap it up - ready to take home to your oven.

Thrillist's article noted that by and large (or extra large), pizza chains were tops in most of their results for other states, leaving burger joints by the wayside. Businesses that largely deal in coffee, such as Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts, also had prominence on their national list.
