DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

The masterpieces at the Alabama Center For The Arts in Decatur are an eclectic collection of caricature, concept, expressionism and more.

However, the artist may not even be familiar with those terms. That's because the creators are from area K-12 schools. This is the 13th annual Youth Art exhibit.

Jennifer Bunnell is the Coordinator for the Alabama Center for the Arts.

"It's amazing. I'm impressed every year with their techniques and designs and ability to execute their creations," she said.

There are so many great pieces here, and when you see them it's hard to believe they are done by children. They're not only lining the main hallway, they're also in the main gallery.

Bunnell says the pieces are being considered for awards.

"They will do the judging next week and then they will have an awards ceremony for the children," she said.

The pieces will be here through April 7. There is no charge to view the exhibit.

On the day of our visit, some Pulaski, Tennessee schoolchildren were viewing the pieces, forming their own opinions and picking favorites.

Jacob Durham is a 6th grader at Minor Hill School.

"The Vincent Van Gogh's 'Starry Night... how they put crayons to make a painting look like anyone could it with just about anything," he said.

Jacqui Kennedy is a 6th grader at Bridgeforth Middle School.

"I like that - the one with the girl and the tree in it, because it just looks pretty," Jacqui said. "I think it's like a girl who is trying to chase her dreams."
