Sierra Nevada Corp. announces new facility at Madison Co. Airport to bring 200 jobs

MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A new facility opening at the Madison County airport will bring 200 jobs to the area.

The Sierra Nevada Corporation announced on Monday that they are building an aircraft and modernization facility at the Madison County Airport.

"What this is is a large scale aircraft integration facility. We will purchase new aircraft, bring them here to modify them and militarize them into special mission aircraft," said Sierra Nevada Corp.’s Tim Owings

The Sierra Nevada Corporation said the new facility will house 200 well-paying jobs once the facility is finished. The company said a ballpark estimate for the salary range would be $60,000 to $190,000 per year.

"We've got the right people, at the right place, at the right time. Our education base is phenomenal. We've just got to keep this motivation going," said Madison County Commission Chairman Dale Strong.

Strong and other local leaders have helped add more than 9,000 jobs over the last 39 months.

Negotiations for the 130,000 square foot facility went on for a year and had multiple phases. Construction will begin in March 2016.
