FIRST ALERT WEATHER: Chilly start to Thursday with afternoon temps on the rise

(WAFF) -

Thursday temperatures will start out in the upper 20s and lower 30s during the morning. Frost will be fairly widespread and there is also some patchy fog.  While the fog is not too widespread, many are at or below freezing, so where the fog is thicker, icy spots could develop - especially on bridges.

Skies will be clear otherwise and any fog should lift by 9 a.m. You can expect plenty of sunshine through the day and temperatures will warm quickly, reaching the mid-50s by lunch time with highs into the low-to-mid 60s. Look for mainly clear skies tonight with milder readings overnight with lows bottoming out in the lower 40s.

Skies will be mostly sunny on Friday and it will be a windier day than Thursday with 10-20 mph gusts, pushing highs closer to 70. With this warmer weather, tree pollen will be on the increase into the weekend.

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
