MADISON, AL (WAFF) -

It's called "funny money," but there's really nothing funny about counterfeit cash.

Just ask the business owners who are on the losing end of this crime.

But an alert cashier was able to stop one counterfeiter.

Now, we need your help finding him in this week's Huntsville Area Crime Stoppers.

Store surveillance video captured our suspect as he walks to the cash register at the Publix on Highway 72 in Madison, attempting to pay $50 in cash for a gift card.

The problem is, that money wasn't worth the paper is was printed on. It was counterfeit, and the clerk instantly stepped away to notify management.

But when she did that, the counterfeiter decided this wasn't going to work. So he headed for the door.

Even though he ran out the door, he can't outrun his problems. He's still facing a charge of circulating counterfeit money.

Police describe him as around 5'10", 150 pounds. He also has a small goatee.

Any idea who he is?

The answer to that question could put a chunk of change in your pocket.

All you have to do to claim a reward of up to $1,000 is to phone in your anonymous tips to 256-53-Crime or submit your tips online.
