FIRST ALERT WEATHER: Chilly weekend ahead

(WAFF) -

Temperatures will stay above freezing for many this Friday morning, hovering in the mid-30s. Scattered rain showers with a little sleet and snow mixture are possible across southern Tennessee and northeastern Alabama through around 6-8 a.m. As long as we stay in the mid-30s, this shouldn’t cause any problems other than wet roads.

Skies will be mostly cloudy throughout the morning but look for those clouds to diminish as we head towards the lunch hour. Temperatures should warm quickly as the sun emerges and highs should make it into the low-to-mid 50s. Winds will be light but should pick up to around 10 mph out of the west/northwest this afternoon.

That wind should keep up tonight, driving colder air into the Valley. We’ll start Saturday with lows in the low-to-mid 20s and wind chills as low as the single digits in some spots. You’ll see plenty of sunshine Saturday but it will be cold and breezy. Highs should stay in the mid-30s with a north wind at 10-15 mph.  We face another bitter night with lows in the lower 20s into Sunday. Clouds will increase Sunday afternoon but highs should make it back into the 40s.
