FIRST ALERT WEATHER: Slightly warmer day ahead of weekend cold front

(WAFF) -

It’s not quite as chilly Thursday morning, with temperatures above freezing for many. We'll start out in the mid-30s for many, although an east wind at 5-10 mph is making it feel cooler in some spots. Wind chills will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s, which is a touch milder compared to yesterday morning.

You may see some sunshine through the morning, but by the afternoon, skies will become cloudy. Despite the clouds, temperatures will be a couple degrees warmer than Wednesday with highs in the lower 50s. We’ll stay dry into the afternoon, but rain showers should approach northwestern Alabama around 4-7 p.m. and then spread east with time. Light-to-moderate rain continues overnight and lows should stay in the upper 40s.

An isolated shower is possible Friday morning, but we should be dry by the afternoon with a fair amount of cloud cover. Highs will be in the mid-to-upper 50s.  A strong cold front will approach the Valley on Saturday, bringing with it heavier rain and a few thunderstorms. While severe weather isn't expected, some of the storms could produce gusty winds of 40-50 mph.
