FIRST ALERT: Cold start to your Monday morning--David has your full forecast on WAFF 48 News Today

(WAFF) -

Chilly start to Monday

You can expect a chilly Monday morning with mostly cloudy skies. Temperatures are generally in the low-to-mid 30s, but a north wind at 10-15 mph is making it feel like the 20s. Due to the cloud cover, we’ll be slow to warm throughout the morning hours but temperatures should make it to around 40° for a high Monday afternoon as skies begin to clear.

Two injured in shootout at gas station

Two people were injured in what some witnesses are describing as a shootout at a Birmingham gas station. A man and a woman were shot around 2 a.m. at the Shell gas station on Arkadelphia Road, according to Birmingham police. The injuries are not life-threatening. Investigators recovered nearly 30 shell casings from the scene.

Major gun control announcement expected Monday

President Barack Obama is set to finalize a set of new executive actions tightening the nation's gun laws aimed at curbing gun violence and cracking down on unregulated gun sales. At the top of the list is an effort to expand background checks on gun sales by forcing more sellers to register as federally licensed gun dealers. The changes would be aimed at some unregistered sellers who skirt the background check laws by selling at gun shows, online or informal settings.
