North Alabama is well represented at the collegiate level with athletes.
The Mercer Bears program has two - one that plays football, the other on the basketball court.
Marquise Irvin, who played at Madison County High School just a year ago, just wrapped up his freshman season with the football team, and was named a So-Con (Southern Conference) All-Freshman team performer.
Irvin’s team is only in their fourth year of existence, and finished this season 5-6, but were in every game.
Irvin expects brighter days ahead in his football career.
“A conference championship to begin the season, and if everything goes right, a National Championship; we want to become one of the best So-Con teams,” said Irvin. “I just want to do my best. I just want to work hard, be a leader, and everything else will fall into place. The stats and everything else doesn't matter right now.”
Hazel Green’s Ethan Stair is averaging 6.6 points per game for the Mercer basketball team.
Stair starred for the Trojans last season under Todd Jeffers, and has found a role as a true freshman with the Bears.
Good luck to both young men, and a great job on representing North Alabama at the collegiate level!
