(WAFF) - Wednesday morning will start out with cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and a few rumbles of thunder but no severe weather is expected. The steadiest rain should fall south and east of Huntsville with the rain more isolated in nature towards the Shoals. In general, rain totals should stay less than 0.5" although some locally higher amounts are possible, especially where we see a thunderstorm.
Temperatures won't change much through the day: We're in the upper 40s and lower 50s this morning with highs topping out in the mid-50s this afternoon. Any rain showers should taper off in the east this evening and skies will stay mostly cloudy with temperatures slipping into the lower 40s.
Cooler air continues arriving over the next few days. We won't see much sunshine on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day as a fair amount of cloud cover is expected both days but we should stay dry.
