FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) - One woman in the Shoals is using her non-profit and social media to help make Christmas a little brighter for those in need.
Melissa Hargett is providing Christmas goodies and a meal for about two dozen families.
Hargett says she typically waits until the week before Christmas to go shopping and ask for help.
She wants to be able to help the families who may have fallen through the cracks or have had a sudden lifestyle change.
"They get a pair of jeans and a shirt, and a sweater and Superman underwear or Tinkerbell, and the toys of their choice," Hargett said, "and each family will receive dinner. I will go grocery shopping and I'll buy 10 hams or turkeys and all the fixings that they need to have a great holiday dinner."
Hargett says she uses social media not only to raise money and toys, but also to help spread awareness.
