FIRST ALERT: Successful launch for Soyuz rocket carrying 3 astronauts headed to International Space Station

Successful launch of Soyuz rocket

A Russian rocket carrying 3 astronauts lifted off at 5:03 a.m. and is bound for the ISS. Aboard are Yuri Malenchenko, Timothy Kopra of NASA and Briton Timothy Peake, representing the European Space Agency. Their mission is expected to last six months.

Looming deadline for insurance enrollment

Thousands of you will likely rush to today do some online shopping as open enrollment for the health insurance starting January 1st ends at midnight. New rules for concerning your health insurance went into effect a couple years as a result the Affordable Healthcare Act. You can apply online, by phone, through a paper application, or by going to a local government healthcare office.

Cooler morning in store for many

Today is starting out on a cooler note compared to recent mornings. Temperatures are 10-20° cooler in many spots compared to yesterday morning. Most will start the day in the lower 40s, but a few spots could be as cool as mid-to-upper 30s. Temperatures should warm up quickly with lower 60s by lunchtime.
