(FLORENCE, AL) - Jaclyn Heath scored 26 points and tied a single-game record with seven three-point baskets as the University of North Alabama women's basketball team picked up its first Gulf South Conference win of the season by routing West Alabama 80-56 Sunday afternoon at Flowers Hall. The win gives the Lions a 2-7 overall record and 1-3 mark in GSC play.
Heath, a sophomore from La Porte, Ind., had five three-pointers at the half as UNA built a 42-25 lead. Her final three-pointer came with 1:15 remaining and tied former UNA players Jessica Brown (2014-15) and Teenia Harris (1988-89) with seven for the game.
As a team, the Lions went 16-of-34 from three-point range, just one shy of team records in makes and attempts. Elise Holden connected on a pair of treys and finished with 14 points for the Lions. She also added nine rebounds and seven assists on the day. Shunice Herron rounded out the top scorers for UNA with 12 points.
The Lions also had a solid defensive outing, forcing 21 UWA turnovers, which led to 23 points. UNA added 14 fast-break points, 10 second-chance points and 26 points in the paint.
West Alabama (4-4 overall, 1-3 GSC) was led by Ariel Wilson's 19 points and six rebounds.
