HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

This year the Huntsville Ballet Company's "The Nutcracker" is all in the family. The McMahon family will all have parts in the production.

Melissa, Michael, and their daughters, Elizabeth, 12, Amelia, 11, Madeline, 8, Anna Kate, 7, and Lucy,3, all are in the production.  This makes Melissa is one proud mom.

"There are many families in Huntsville Ballet that have lots of siblings participating." said Melissa. " It just so happens that we have 5 daughters that are in the Nutcracker this year."

Melissa and Michael are also performing so she says that makes 7.

"7 family members is a lot, but we decided that this is something that we're doing, we can do it all together and it's been a fun family activity for us." said Melissa.

Her husband, Michael said it is precious family time.

"You're always trying to find strategic ways that you can get everybody together.  And we started our oldest girls in ballet and then kind of followed with the other ones and they've just already taken to it." said Michael.

Melissa says it's also a family tradition.

"The Nutcracker is one of those great Christmas traditions because it is the same story and the same music every year.  But the cast is always different." said Melissa. "We're always changing up the costumes a little. It's something I grew up with. I always went with my mom every year, even when I was in college in Alabama."

Melissa said it is a little easier because the children are home schooled.

"Knowing that we're going to be involved in Nutcracker every year, we start school in summer so we can take off from Thanksgiving on." added Melissa.

Michael said there are so many positives to dance.

"Part of that too is the discipline of the ballet. They have that and it instills it to them." Michael added.

The Nutcracker is not only a great show to participate in, as a family, it's also a great performance to watch as a family in Bobby's Bama.
