Madison City Schools emergency codes

Madison City Schools have two different color-codes for on-campus emergencies - red and yellow.

code yellow is described as an emergency 'lockout.' Procedure is as follows:

1. Bring in any displaced students.
2. Lock classroom doors and windows.
3. Cover the door window if possible.
4. DO NOT leave room if emergency alarms sound (ex: fire alarm)
5. Instruction may continue
6. Students in cafeteria may continue breakfast/lunch
7. Students cannot leave the classroom/lunchroom
8. Principal will announce when school is ALL CLEAR.

code red is described as an emergency 'lockdown.' Procedure is as follows:

Interior Classroom Procedures
1. Lock classroom doors and windows.
2. Cover the door window if possible.
3. Turn off lights
4. Move students away from doors and windows, out of sight.
5. Silence all cell phones
6. Remain silent
7. D0 NOT open door for anyone, including displaced students
8. DO NOT leave room if emergency alarms sound (ex: fire alarm)
9. Police will clear rooms by sliding their POLICE ID under classroom door.
10. Principal will announce when school is ALL CLEAR.

Exterior Procedures
1. DO NOT try to enter building.
2. Move students out of sight
3. Teachers/staff are to notify office by radio or cell phone of location
