Dozens of vehicles were shot at and damaged earlier this year. Dozens of vehicles were shot at and damaged earlier this year.
MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Can you imagine waking up to find the windshield to your vehicle parked in your driveway had been shattered by gunfire?

Unfortunately, it happened to dozens of people recently.

Here's how it happened, and how you can help solve this senseless crime spree in this week's Huntsville Area Crime Stoppers.

We have pictures of shattered windshields that poured into our newsroom the weekend of September 5-6 in the Toney and Harvest area of Madison County.

The windshields of numerous cars, trucks and SUVs had been shot out.

One victim told us: “It's a shame someone like this would go around doing damage to people's property."

Another said: "I think it's kids running around acting like a fools."

And law enforcement does suspect local kids as being the culprits here, totaling tens of thousands of dollars in damage.

You can see a number of vehicles parked in driveways on Windstone Drive in Toney.

In actuality, what they became were targets on that particular weekend.

I talked to a neighbor here who said virtually every home here was hit. 39 vehicles in all.

Law enforcement obviously suspects the same people in this string of criminal mischief.

That's why students are being asked to talk to their school resource officers.
