FIRST ALERT: Huntsville police investigating early morning armed robbery--the latest on WAFF 48 News Today

Armed robbery investigation underway

Huntsville police are investigating an early morning armed robbery. Police were called to a home on Oakwood Avenue just after 1:50 a.m. Tuesday for reports of a home invasion. K-9 units were brought in to search for the suspect but were unable to locate him. About an hour after the robbery, police told us they took one person into custody for questioning in connection with this incident. That person's name hasn't been released, and at last word, they've not been charged.


UA police searching for suspects

Police at the University of Alabama are currently searching for two suspects wanted in a Monday night armed robbery. Investigators say that two men robbed at and shot a man Monday night.


Brett Russell to be sentenced today

Former Huntsville police officer Brett Russell will learn his fate in court today. Russell was convicted on charges of civil rights violations after dashcam video shows Russell punching and kicking Gary Wayne Hopkins, who Russell was arresting at the time. As soon as a sentence is handed down, we'll be sure to update you on-air and online at WAFF.com.
