Huntsville Havoc Split two games over the weekend

COLUMBUS, GA - Stuart Stefan netted the deciding goal for the Huntsville Havoc Havoc in the shootout as Havoc prevailed over the Columbus Cottonmouths Cottonmouths, 4-3 (1-0 SO). The shootout lasted for 12 attempts between the teams.

Huntsville Havoc came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Havoc trailed 3-2 after a goal by Columbus Cottonmouths' Tyler Henry at 16:14 in the second period. Huntsville Havoc knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Nolan Kaiser at 18:12 in the third period.

The Havoc stifled the Cottonmouths' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Huntsville Havoc forced Columbus Cottonmouths goalie Shannon Szabados to work between the pipes, taking 51 shots.

The Havoc were helped by Kyle McNeil, who finished with one goal. McNeil scored 15:30 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Huntsville Havoc. Jordan Reed provided the assist. Brett Lutes also scored for Huntsville Havoc. In addition, Huntsville Havoc received assists from Nick Schneider, John Lidgett, and Clinton Atkinson, who each chipped in one.

The Cottonmouths put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Huntsville Havoc to score on any of its five power plays. The Havoc were unable to stop Columbus Cottonmouths from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cottonmouths eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Columbus Cottonmouths also had goals scored by Ben OQuinn and Chris Rial, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Columbus Cottonmouths were Louis Belisle, Patrick McCadden, Kyle Shapiro, and Shawn Bates, who contributed one each.

Kevin Genoe rejected 28 shots on goal for Huntsville Havoc. The Havoc ended with 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors. Szabados recorded 47 saves for Columbus Cottonmouths. The Cottonmouths totaled 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 0-for-5 on the power play.

Saturday, October 24 - Huntsville 1, Fayetteville 2

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - A stellar performance between the pipes by Sean Bonar helped the Fayetteville FireAntz FireAntz defeat the Huntsville Havoc Havoc, 2-1.

Fayetteville FireAntz was led by Berkley Scott, who finished with one goal. Scott scored on the power play 18:50 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Fayetteville FireAntz. The FireAntz had gained a power play chance when Nolan Kaiser was whistled for roughing. Josh McQuade picked up the assist.

Fayetteville FireAntz kept Huntsville Havoc's goalie busy throughout the game, and Kevin Genoe made 32 saves on 34 shots. The FireAntz found themselves short handed often, totaling 40 penalty minutes and allowing two power plays.

Shane Lust also scored for Fayetteville FireAntz. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville FireAntz were Kyle Gibbons, who had one.

The Havoc racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and four majors for 54 minutes in penalty time. Huntsville Havoc had been averaging 37.0 minutes in penalties per game. Fayetteville FireAntz was unable to stop the Havoc from sending pucks towards the net, and Huntsville Havoc eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

The Havoc were led by John Lidgett, who scored the team's only goal. Lidgett scored 17:56 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville Havoc. Brett Lutes assisted on the tally.

Sean Bonar made 31 saves for the FireAntz on 32 shots. Fayetteville FireAntz registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Huntsville Havoc, Kaiser was ejected from the game.
