(WAFF) - Jacksonville State junior quarterback Eli Jenkins has been named the Ohio Valley Conference's Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Gamecocks to a 42-13 win at Tennessee Tech.
Jenkins earned his second OVC Player of the Week of the season after guiding a big day by the top-ranked Gamecocks' offense. JSU racked up 619 yards against TTU, the ninth 600-yard game in school history and the sixth-most a JSU team has gained in a game.
The third-year starter from Birmingham accounted for three touchdowns, one rushing and two passing, to lift the Gamecocks to their 12th-straight win over OVC foes. In just over two quarters of action, he completed 18-of-27 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns
and carried the ball 10 times for 84 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown run.
Jenkins tossed a four-yard touchdown to Dalton Screws in the first quarter and a 30-yard TD toss to
Troymaine Pope just before halftime. He has now thrown at least one touchdown pass in his last nine games
and in 15 of his last 16.
His 270 yards of total offense ran his career total to 5,843 yards, which is fourth in school history, while his 3,874 career passing yards are eighth in JSU's record books. JSU improved to 21-0 in his career regular season starts against FCS opponents.
The Gamecocks next game is Saturday at Austin Peay in Clarksville, Tenn. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
