University of North Alabama junior kicker Kevin Henke of St. Charles, Mo., has been named Gulf South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Lions game against Western Oregon.
Henke battled heavy rains and strong winds to turn in an impressive performance that included hitting three straight field goal attempts, three touchbacks on kickoffs and a successful onside kick in the Lions 24-22 loss to the Wolves.
Henke's field goals of 43, 35 and 28 yards helped UNA overcome a 10-7 halftime deficit to go ahead 16-10 in the fourth quarter.
With UNA down 24-22 in the final two minutes, Henke's successful onside kick gave the Lions the ball with the chance for a possible game-winning drive.
Only two of Henke's five kickoffs were returned in the game and they only went for a total of 30 yards.
For the season, Henke is UNA's leading scorer with 53 points, having made all 20 of his extra-point attempts and 11 of 14 field goal attempts.
