Tuna lawsuit: Starkist offering cash, coupons for customers

(WAFF) - Have you purchased a can of Starkist tuna in the last six years? If so, you may have some money coming your way.

Starkist settled a lawsuit filed by a California man in 2013 who claimed the company was underfilling five ounce cans of tuna.

Although Starkist didn't admit it did anything wrong, the company is offering $25 in cash to people who bought its tuna between Feb. 19, 2009 and Oct. 31, 2014. You can also elect to receive $50 in coupons for Starkist tuna.

You are eligible for the refund if you bought any of the following during that period:

  • one or more 5 oz. can of Chunk Light Tuna in Water,
  • one or more 5 oz. can of Chunk Light Tuna in Oil,
  • one or more 5 oz. can of Solid White Tuna in Water, or
  • one or more 5 oz. can of Solid White Tuna in Oil

You don't need a receipt to file a claim. You will, however, be required to submit a form confirming under penalty of perjury the specific Starkist product(s) you purchase and that the products were purchased within the time period.
