University of North Alabama senior quarterback Luke Wingo of Tuscaloosa, Ala., has been selected Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 28 for his performance in UNA's 55-48 win over Florida Tech.
Wingo completed 24-of-39 passes for 398 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 64 yards and two more scores on 15 carries.
With the game tied at 34-34 in the third quarter, Wingo led back-to-back scoring drives of 67 and 52 yards which he capped with TD runs of 16 yards and one yard.
With his 64 yards rushing in the game, Wingo also became just the third quarterback in UNA history to go over the 1,000-yard career rushing mark, joining Cody Gross and Tyler Peterson.
The GSC Player of the Week award is the second for Wingo in his career at UNA.
Wingo's 7,011 yards of career total offense rank second in UNA history, as do his 69 touchdowns responsible for. In ranks fourth in career passing yards (5,949), fifth in career pass completions (426) and fifth in career touchdown passes (40).
North Alabama plays at Valdosta State Saturday, October 3, at 1 p.m. Central.
