LEOMA, TN (WAFF) - Ever wanted to escape the city life and move to your very own farm? A Tennessee family may have the opportunity you're looking for.
The Hartsfield family lives on a 42-acre farm in Leoma, TN, about an hour north of Huntsville, and they want to give it away. All you have to do is send an essay of 500 words or less along with $150 and the farm could be yours!
The family's website says the farm, located on Rabbit Trail Road in Leoma, has a 2,032 sq ft, three bedroom, two and a half bath house, 40x40' steel building and a two-bay shed. The farm also has a catfish pond, three gardens, a fenced pasture, hay field and several nature trails.
Brent Hartsfield said the house was for sale for a while, but wanted to make the property to be more accessible to more people.
Hartsfield said people can enter multiple times, as long as the essays are unique.
The contest officially launched on Sept. 19 and will run until mid-December. The winner of the contest will be notified on Dec. 24.
A panel of judges will select the essay that best demonstrates the theme "Living a Country Life" and award that person the farm, which is valued at $320,000.
According to contest rules, all entry fees will be returned if at least 2,500 entries are not received.
Leoma is about 20 minutes south of Lawrenceburg, TN. If you want more information about the farm or the contest, you can visit the family's website.
Earlier this year, a family in Elkmont started a contest to give away a goat farm. The deadline for that contest is Oct. 1
