(WAFF) - State trooper hit by vehicle
Developing out of Jefferson County: An Alabama state trooper is in the hospital this morning after being struck by a car on I-59 in Trussville. The trooper was injured in a wreck around 2 a.m. in a construction zone after a driver struck him after leaving the highway, according to investigators. He was alert and was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment, where he remains.
Police arrest suspected car thief
Killen police said they have arrested a man suspected of a Monday afternoon car theft. Police say the man stole a handgun from one vehicle before stealing a 1998 Chevy Monte Carlo at Walton's Automotive. Late Tuesday night, police said they announced the suspect, Torry Holden, was arrested and charged with first-degree unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle and second-degree theft of property.
Neighbors 'in shock' following murder-suicide
Residents on Brier Ridge Court in Madison County are struggling to cope with a shocking murder-suicide and the shooting of an 11-year-old girl. "So out of the ordinary for this neighborhood, because it's normally very quiet," says neighbor Elizabeth Wharry. The 11-year-old girl, who remains in critical condition, is a student at Monrovia Middle School. School officials say they will have extra counselors on hand for the students.
