Developing out of Jefferson County: An Alabama state trooper is in the hospital this morning after being struck by a car on I-59 in Trussville. He was alert and was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment, where he remains.

Police arrest suspected car thief

Killen police said they have arrested a man suspected of a Monday afternoon car theft. Police say the man stole a handgun from one vehicle before stealing a 1998 Chevy Monte Carlo at Walton's Automotive. Late Tuesday night, police said they announced the suspect, Torry Holden, was arrested and charged with first-degree unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle and second-degree theft of property.

Neighbors 'in shock' following murder-suicide

Residents on Brier Ridge Court in Madison County are struggling to cope with a shocking murder-suicide and the shooting of an 11-year-old girl. "So out of the ordinary for this neighborhood, because it's normally very quiet," says neighbor Elizabeth Wharry. The 11-year-old girl, who remains in critical condition, is a student at Monrovia Middle School. School officials say they will have extra counselors on hand for the students.
