Police searching for owners of abandoned dogs

Madison police say there is a criminal investigation of charges relating to animal cruelty and animal abandonment after several dogs were found emaciated in a wooded area near Gillespie Road and Wall Triana Highway. Police say they are unsure of how many counts there will be of each. On Wednesday, Madison police say animal control officers were attempting to locate a stray dog, and when they followed the dog into a wooded area they found several dogs that were emaciated and left without food or water. The dogs were rescued and taken to a veterinarian for evaluation. Police say at this time, there is no information on who may be responsible for these animals. The veterinarian is hopeful that all the dogs make a full recovery. Anyone with information is asked to call Madison Animal Control at 256-772-5689.
