(WAFF) - New trial date to be set for Eric Parker
The Madison police officer accused of using excessive force on another man is headed back to court today. Eric Parker will make his appearance in federal court Wednesday morning to set a date for his new trial. This comes just 5 days after the jury failed to reach a verdict in the Parker's criminal trial. Jurors in Parker's original trial were split 10-2 in favor of acquittal. Parker faces 10 years in prison if convicted for violating the civil rights of Sureshbhai Patel.
Testimony continues in Barry Whitton trial
Testimony is expected to resume Wednesday in the Barry Whitton murder trial. The trial resumed Tuesday with Barry Whitton's parents on the stand. While on the stand, both said they were unable to identify their son but after brief questioning, they were both able to identify him. The court also heard testimony from Michelle Whitton's cousin Lisa Hendricks. Hendricks said that Michelle wanted to leave Barry and divorce him, but Michelle was afraid Barry would kill her first.
