(WAFF) - The Auburn Tigers had to rally late to escape with a 27-20 win over in state foe Jacksonville State. Mistakes were made, but much of those had to do with their opponent, who came into Saturday's game a top 10 team at the FCS level. A ton of work to be done for the Tigers as they head to face LSU Saturday in Death Valley.
"Obviously it wasn't what we wanted, but knowing we had that much time left," said wide receiver Melvin Ray, who caught a late touchdown that would propel Auburn into overtime. "We had a lot of confidence that the defense was going to do their part, and really hold them and give us another chance, and they did that."
"You know, I don't let my mind go there. As a coach you're sitting there looking to try and play the game, what if they go to overtime, what if they score in overtime," said Gus Malzahn after the game. "So as a coach, you don't, at least I don't, you're trying to play the next play."
