Kitchen Cops: Repeat low performers among 6 poor scorers

The Casa Blanca Mexican Restaurant in the 1800 block of Highway 72 East in Athens scored a 79 during their re-inspection after scoring an 83 during their previous inspection. Food at the wrong temperature can allow bacteria to grow, and the inspector reports issues with both hot and cold food. Casa Blanca lost points for not reheating cheese dip to the required temperature. The inspector also reports rice was five degrees below the required hot food temperature. In the fridge, steak was nine degrees above the required cold food temperature and cheese was five degrees off. An employee was also reportedly eating in a food prep area.

South Sauty Cafe in Langston scored a 70. The Marshall County Health Department reports potatoes were held below the temperature needed for hot holding food. They lost points because an employee drink was on a prep table. They also had hermetically sealed tomatoes for sale, which is not allowed.

Lucy's County Cafe at Lake Guntersville Park scored a 75. The inspector reports they got sausage from an unapproved source and that they were not reheating leftovers to the necessary temperature.

Somewhere on the Lake in Guntersville scored a 76. They lost points because shrimp in a cooler weren't cool enough, six degrees too warm, Also, bottles of cleaner didn't have labels.

The Rising Crust Pizza & Hope in Florence scored an 84. A bottle of cleaner was not properly labeled and no employees had their food safety certification.

Las Vias Mexican Grill in Hartselle also scored an 84. The Morgan County Health Department reports there were open employee drinks on the ice maker and that there was not enough sanitizer in the dishwashing machine.

The IHOP in Athens is one of three restaurants earning their way off of the Kitchen Cops low performers list, scoring a 90 this time, 15 points better than last time.

Las Trojas Cantina in Athens scored a 91 during their reinspection. That's a nine point improvement.

The Sonic in Athens scored a 90, seven points better than their previous inspection.

There are nine Kitchen Cops High Performers this week. The Factory in Florence, the Krystal in Muscle Shoals, Leroy's Chicken and Fish in Harvest. Snappy's Pizza in Huntsville and Wild Cherry Cabaret in Harvest each scored a 99.

El Quetzal Buena Vista in Russellville and the Starbucks on Cox Creek Parkway in Florence each scored a 98.
