(WAFF) - Shoplifting suspects nabbed
3 suspects were taken into custody after shoplifting from Fred's in Decatur. Police say that just before 7:00 last night, a store employee noticed the three attempting to shoplift items. Once the employee confronted the group, one of the suspected shoplifters pepper sprayed the employee. Not long after, police were able to catch up with the group, taking two of them into custody and releasing a 17-year-old female into the custody of her parents. Desmond Aycock and Dennis Mitchell were charged with second-degree robbery. Mitchell faces an additional charge of criminal use of pepper spray, a felony.
Day 3: Eric Parker trial
Day 3 of Eric Parker's federal trial is to get underway later this morning. Yesterday, a jury of 11 men and three women was selected and seated and testimony began, including testimony from the victim, Sureshbhai Patel. Patel said he came to the United States on Jan. 30 to live with his son, son's wife and grandson. He told the prosecutor he walked every morning to the corner of the street and back. He said he was not walking in yards. When police shouted from at him he stopped, saying he didn't understand what they were saying and told them, "no English."
Fire at Space and Rocket Center
A small fire caused plenty of chaos at the Space and Rocket Center last night. The fire was reported around just after 8:00, to a storage area near the space camp training area and was extinguished quickly. No injuries were reported and the Center will open at it's regularly scheduled time Thursday.
