(WAFF) - Day two of Eric Parker trial picks back up
Day two of the Eric Parker trial picks up on Wednesday and opening statements are expected to begin. The beginning stages of Parker's trial began Tuesday with jury selection; the 12 jurors are being selected from a pool of more than 50 people. Parker's attorneys called the jury selection process a long and tedious process but also say they never expected it to be a simple process. Eric Parker faces a civil rights violation and is accused of using excessive force during a confrontation with Sureshbhai Patel in February. Parker is on administrative leave from the Madison police department; officials with the police department said they will still pursue Parker's termination regardless of the trial's outcome.
Judge denies motion for new trial
A Limestone County judge has denied the motion for a new trial in the Joel Moyers case. Moyers' attorneys filed the motion shortly after his May 2015 conviction and sentencing. Moyers was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2012 murder of Brandon Hydrick..
