WEST DES MOINES, IA (WAFF) - As students go back to school across the U.S., it can be easy to forget about the work teachers and school staff do to prepare for children to return to their classrooms. One school district in Iowa had a special treat for their teachers as they prepared for "one day more" without students.
The superintendent of West Des Moines Community School District was speaking to the district's staff about the impending school year. Suddenly, she was joined on stage by a faculty member, singing a parody of the song "One Day More" from Les Miserables. More and more faculty members joined him, until there was a full-fledged flash mob on stage.
According to the YouTube video, which has already been viewed more than two million times since it was posted Aug. 23, only twelve members of the flash mob were music teachers - the rest were brave volunteers from the district. The group had been practicing the musical number since June.
Here's to a great school year for West Des Moines, and for all the teachers, staff and students across the country.
