Austin aims to return to playoffs

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

The 2014 season wasn’t the best for the Austin Black Bears in Class 6A Region 8. A 1-5 record within the region and a 2-8 record overall is unacceptable for Head Coach Jeremy Perkins.

This season, a renewed focus on getting off to a great start. The 2015 schedule another tough slate, starting with a trip to Spain Park to open the year.

"When you play a really tough schedule and a really good team in Spain Park, a really good team in Buckhorn, and a rival game with Decatur, and you don't play your best football, your confidence can get hurt a little bit., and that's kinda what happened to us last year. Momentum is on the other side, and not our side, so we want to come out hot."

The Black Bears will try and land a playoff spot this season, three of the first four games of the season, may be the pre-cursor to a postseason berth. Austin faces Spain Park August 21st.

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
