WATCH WAFF: Community gathers to remember family killed in fire; Officer shot, killed in Louisiana, manhunt underway

(WAFF) -

A community mourns

Classmates, friends, teachers and faculty mourned as one Wednesday night in remembrance of an 8-year-old child killed along with several other family members in a Madison County house fire. 8-year-old Clayton Chambers died Tuesday night, along with his 1-year-old cousin Eli Sokolowski, grandmother Jean Smallwood, and mother Kristen Henderson. Henderson, it was learned, was nine months pregnant at the time of her death. School officials said the vigil was primarily to remember Chambers and the other family members lost, but also to thank first responders and school community members for their support. They said nothing is more important than the show of support the community brought in attending Wednesday's vigil. Henderson's estranged husband, Christopher, and his previous wife, Rhonda Carlson, are charged with their murder.

Manhunt in Louisiana

Police confirmed that an officer shot in the line of duty Wednesday night has died. More than six dozen police units were at a home in the search for the gunman, with DeSoto Parish lending a helicopter, and a Special Response Team was at a home. There was no word on whether the gunman is believed to be inside. Officers were called to the scene just after 9 p.m. Wednesday for a call of a suspicious person or prowler. Authorities said they are looking for a male gunman, but no description has been provided.
