LOOK AHEAD: Slight relief from brutal heat, humidity in sight

(WAFF) -

Slightly cooler weekend in store

We’re starting this morning with a number of foggy spots and in some cases that fog will be locally dense. Outside of the fog, skies are mainly clear. We’ll see a mix of sun and clouds into the afternoon as a cold front heads into the Tennessee Valley.

There could be a few isolated storms as the cold front moves through, but many will stay rain free. The highest chance for rain today will be over northeastern AL through the afternoon. It will still be a warm and muggy day with highs into the lower 90s and a heat index near 100. By the mid-to-late afternoon, winds will pick up to around 10 mph out of the north as the front passes, ushering in drier and slightly cooler air for the next few days.

Skies should be mainly clear tonight, and lows will fall into the upper 60s. Friday will be a great way to close out the month of July, with highs reaching the lower 90s. But, with lower humidity, the low 90s will feel like low 90s instead of triple digits. We’re in store for a pleasant weekend as well.
