LOOK AHEAD: Scattered thunderstorms expected across the Tennessee Valley

(WAFF) -

Scattered thunderstorms expected today

Areas of locally dense fog are possible this morning so you may want to budget more time for the morning drive.  A cluster of storms is also moving east through west Tennessee and could spread rain this morning. Those storms could be into the Metro area during the normal commute time as well. Rain could be heavy at times, but won’t last all day. That being said, additional storms are possible later today. The rain will be more occasional or periodic as opposed to a steady wash out all day long. Some storms could be strong with gusty winds of 35-45 mph and frequent lightning. A severe storm or two is not out of the question, but most storms in the Valley won’t reach that level of intensity today. Afternoon highs should make it into the upper-80s and lower 90s.

James Lawhorne to make court appearance today

The man behind a failed organic tomato business is scheduled to be in court Wednesday. James Lawhorne is accused of taking money that people invested into his company, Cypress Creek Organic Farms, and then taking off. Lawhorne is facing several counts of securities fraud. This comes after a lengthy investigation that also included Lawhorne jumping bond and later being caught him in Florida. Attorneys are working on a possible plea deal that should be a fair and just resolution to the case. We'll have a crew in the courtroom and let you know what happens.
