(WAFF) -

This morning we’re working to find out the reason behind the large police presence in the Marshall County community of Joppa. Sheriff’s deputies are canvassing the area along with helicopters and K-9 units. Law enforcement officials are not releasing any information at this time.

Day 1 of the Alabama legislative special session begins today. Lawmakers will convene in Montgomery in an attempt to approve a new general fund budget. The 2015 regular session ended in June without an approved budget in place for the 2016 fiscal year. Lawmakers have 12 meeting days over a 30-day period to approve a budget.

We hope you'll join us Margo Gray, Trent Butler and David Ernst for WAFF 48 News this morning. Remember, you can always watch online at WAFF.com/Live or by tapping "Watch Newscasts" on your WAFF News mobile app.
