MONTGOMERY, AL (WAFF) - Alabama Governor Robert Bentley announced Thursday a special session to address the General Fund Budget will begin Monday.
The 2015 regular Alabama Legislative Session ended on June 4 without a General Fund Budget in place for the 2016 fiscal year, according to the governor's office.
Since that session, Bentley has met with lawmakers and legislative leaders to discuss potential options for the General Fund, which supports most non-education related functions of the state government.
The governor's office said problems have existed for decades in the way funding was appropriated to the General Fund because of no growth taxes available to support it.
Bentley's call for items to be addressed in the Special Session will be announced Friday.
