Former NASA launch commentator Jack King dies at 84

NASA solemnly announced the death of former Kennedy Space Center chief of public information Jack King on Thursday.

King worked in the public affairs office from 1960-1975 and worked with the United Space Alliance from the 1990s until his retirement in 2010.

He was the "voice of launch control" for missions spanning from Gemini 4 to Apollo 15, according to NASA's announcement.

Following his retirement, King served as a public affairs volunteer for NASA.

King and his wife Evelyn were married 39 years prior to her 2005 death. They had three children and five grandchildren.

King was 84.
