Storms move through Shoals; Governor Bentley plans to crack down - WAFF-TV: News, Weather and Sports for Huntsville, AL

Storms move through Shoals; Governor Bentley plans to crack down on prescription drug abuse; suspect accused of scamming elderly man

(WAFF) - Good Monday evening.

We had some stormy weather move through the Shoals earlier today. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but a number of trees and power lines were down. WAFF 48's Jim Abath will have the latest live from the scene.

We're also digging into Governor Bentley's pledge to crack down on the abuse of prescription drugs in our state. But as WAFF 48's Lauren Bale uncovered, North Alabama might already be ahead of the curve when it comes to this particular battle.

And my Huntsville Area Crime Stopper's “Valley's Wanted” features a shameless crime of a man who allegedly scammed an elderly man, who's suffering from dementia, out of several hundred dollars.

We hope you'll join us for these stories and more at 10.

David: Showers and storms ongoing across the Valley

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
