(WAFF) - Celebrate Thursday's unique holiday by ordering your favorite burger with all your favorite toppings.

May 28 is National Hamburger Day, according to punchbowl.com. Americans eat almost 50 billion burgers a year, which is the equivalent of three burgers a week for every person in the United States.

Hamburgers originated in Hamburg, Germany, but eating the hamburger on a bun is an American tradition, most likely invented in Seymour, WI.

You can grill some burgers and have some friends over or order your favorite burger from your favorite restaurant to celebrate. You can't go wrong with National Hamburger Day just as summer has officially kicked off.

Cheeburger Cheeburger on Whitesburg Drive is offering buy one get one half off for burgers and their "Burger of the Day" is the original hamburger.

Also, you can head downtown to Humphrey's Bar and Grill for half-priced burgers starting at 5 p.m.
