Police: Erratic driver caused crash on I-565

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Interstate 565 reopened around noon after a crash that shut the westbound lanes down for hours on Tuesday morning.

Emergency crews responded to the crash near the intersection of I-65. The accident happened around 9 a.m. near Exit 1 on a bridge over a creek.   Westbound traffic was detoured onto Mooresville Road.

According to Huntsville police, Jordan Godsey, 26, was driving a Honda Civic westbound I-565 when witnesses say he sideswiped a concrete barrier. As he continued down the road, they say he hit a Cadillac, bounced off the Cadillac, then sideswiped it again. Police say Godsey's car then roll up on its side before spinning around and hitting a guardrail.

Godsey was ejected from his car. He was taken by Med Flight to Huntsville Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

The two occupants of the Cadillac were taken by ambulance to Huntsville Hospital where they are being treated for non-life threatening injuries

The accident remains under investigation.
