HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A fight between two brothers on Gateway Drive, just off of Hobbs Road in Huntsville on Monday night left one person dead and two injured.

Police say one brother stabbed the other. When a neighbor heard the commotion, the assailant stabbed the neighbor as well.

Anthony Briggs and his brother Quinten Briggs live in the same apartment building but in different apartments. Around 9:30 p.m., Anthony went downstairs to the apartment where Quinten and his mother live. He began banging on the door and yelling for Quinten to come outside. When Quinten opened the door, Anthony began swinging a knife at him, cutting him on both arms. Quinten went back inside the apartment and locked the door to get away from him.

Police say a neighbor, Matthew Hooks, came outside his apartment to see what the commotion was about. That's when Anthony ran back down the steps and began swinging the knife at the neighbor. He put his hands up to defend himself and went back into his apartment. It wasn't until he was inside the apartment he discovered Anthony had been swinging a knife at him and had stabbed him in the shoulder. Police say Hooks immediately called police.

According to officials, when officers arrived on the scene, they saw Anthony on the second floor of the apartment building. When he saw the officers, he came charging down the stairs with the knife still in his hand yelling and screaming at the officers. The officers saw he had a knife and yelled at him drop the knife and put his hands up. Police say when he refused and continued to charge the officers, they were forced to shoot him.

"He was yelling at the officers, charging at the officers. The officers yelled back demanding that he drop the knife," said Lt. Darryl Lawson with the Huntsville Police Department. "He continued to charge at the officers, the officers were forced to shoot him."

Anthony was transported by HEMSI to Huntsville Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Both Quinten Briggs and Hook were treated at Huntsville Hospital and released.

Major Crimes Investigators, Internal Affairs Investigators, and Crime Scene Investigators were all called to the scene. The case is currently under investigation.

The policemen that were involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave due to standard policy pending a preliminary investigation.

An Incident Review Board will hear evidence and testimony surrounding the shooting incident at a later date.
